Sebastien Leon x artist and designer

Sebastien Leon is a French Los Angeles-based artist whose work brings to life ethereal physical environments that are simultaneously tangible and familiar and unmistakably abstract.

Leon’s slick multi-channel musical sculptures generate cinematic soundtracks composed of field recordings mixed with instrumental loops and sequenced in algorithmic formulas. His experiential soundscapes loop to eternity, triggering in its listeners a hypnotic sense of place, and seeking to echo the sacred connection between man and the Earth.

With a complex language composed of layered geometric abstraction, his paintings map imagined landscapes that seem to stretch far beyond their borders, imbuing them with a palpable sense of spatial infinity evocative of the wonders of the cosmological world. Layering strong lines and dots to achieve an expansive three-dimensional territory, Leon’s pictures are deeply textured and detailed, pulling the viewer into a mesmerizing optical rhythm.

Leon has worked as an experiential designer internationally for numerous brands such as Audemars Piguet, Krug, Audi, and Samsung. He has shown his sound sculptures at the Palais de Tokyo (Paris), the Park Avenue Armory (New York), the New Museum (New York), the Palazzo Della Triennale (Milan), and UCCA (Beijing). He has developed musical projects with the Dallas Symphony Orchestra and the Alan Lomax Association for Cultural Equity, and has released three solo records. He has received the 2019 FGI Rising Star for his design work with Atelier d’Amis, the furniture company he co-founded in New York in 2016. His work was featured in the Wall Street Journal, the New York Times, Corriere della Sera, Architectural Digest, Elle Decor, Frame Magazine, Dezeen, Design Boom, Whitewall, Wallpaper, etc.
